A 12-year-old boy named Ted was an expert at dodge ball. He had participated in 18 dodge ball tournaments and won them all. All day long, while Ted was in school, his creative mind thought up new ways to dodge a ball. Even though Ted was daydreaming, the teachers and his friends did not really understand what was going on his mind. Ted’s mind was all about throws, deflections, flips, spins and slides. Whenever Ted heard about the next tournament, he could barely think about anything else. Basically, he almost forgot to breathe. One day there was a big tournament on Ted's street, at the new kid's house. This tournament, however, Ted was not so sure about attending. The new kid was very unusual. He spoke about things that made no sense, like do you know you or after you moo. Some kids thought that this new kid was from outer space. Others thought that his brain was made out of mush. There was one thing everyone agreed on. There was nothing normal about the new kid. Well what harm can a new boy do? Thought Ted as he signed up on the list. The title on the list read “Life or Death Dodge Ball”. " At least the new kid made the sign up sheet interesting," muttered Ted. The next day Ted arrived at the new kid's house with a jumpsuit and four dodge balls to play with. The new kid saw Ted and walked over to him. "How are you Ted?" asked the new kid. Ted was surprised that the new kid could even speak a sentence that made sense. The new kid told Ted that his name was Caleb. When Ted walked down to the basement, he was in awe. It was a dodge ball player’s dream. There was a bunch of people playing mini dodge ball games. The tournament courts were extremely high-tech. The floor was made out of stretchy nylon so it would be easier to bounce out of the way of a ball. The walls were tilted in so that you could run to the top of the wall and shoot down at your opponent. A bunch of squares were in the formation of a pyramid. There were going to be 32 people playing. 16 winners would play each other in the second round. Then, there would be only eight winners. The quarterfinals would leave only four players remaining. The four would go down to the final two. Then the two would play dodge ball, and the winner of the match would be the winner of the tournament. First, Ted was going up against a kid named Mark. Mark picked up a ball and threw it at Ted. Ted easily dodged the ball, and he picked up four balls and threw three of them at Mark. When Mark dodged to the side, Ted took advantage of the walls to jump to Mark. While Ted was sailing in the air, he beamed the last ball at Mark and hit him in the nose. Ted, who was grinning from ear to ear, had moved up into the next round. Next up playing was Caleb. A girl named Jessie picked up a ball and threw it at Caleb very fast. Ted thought that Caleb would be hit. Instead, Caleb jumped and made the ball touch the ground before he picked it up. Caleb, who had just picked up the ball, threw it at Jessie's feet. The streaking ball hit Jessie before she could jump. A couple more matches took place and three of Ted's friends also made it to the second round. Next Ted wa
