As you start to fathom the world more as you grow older, you will start to apprehend that in every situation you’ve faced during the duration of your life, there was something to be learned from those particular moments. There are people who learn during the process like Edie did from the story “How I met my husband” by Alice Munro. You also have people who don’t really learn or understand everything until after the fact that experience or period was over. Like Sylvia from the book “The Lesson” By Toni cade Bambara. Both of the stories show connections between both characteristics. As I mentioned; which was for the people who learn during the process while going through a certain situation. Like Edie from “how I met my husband” by Alice Munro. As you start to read more into the story you can identify that Edie the main character in the story is a 15 year old teenager who is starting to experience womanhood. Most of the feelings she was going through were influenced by a man who went by the name of Chris Watters; Chris was a pilot who landed in the Peebles’ field. The Peebles were a married couple that Edie worked for around the house. Edie was alone one day and decided to try on Mrs. Peebles fancy clothes and make up. During that period of time Chris the pilot went looking for some fresh water and peeped through the screen door and noticed Edie standing there. “I turned from putting the Ice tray back and saw a man watching me through the screen door.” (Munro 221). When Edie spots him she immediately takes us into her thoughts; in this moment you can sense she is curious to see this man. She tries to look at him through the screen door but it made him dark in fair view. “I couldn’t see what he looked like, he was dark the way somebody is pressed up against a screen door with the bright daylight behind him.” (Munro 221). Getting further into the story, you can start to see that Edie is stepping out of her comfort zone more and more with her being around Chris. She starts to understand immediately that she is a situation that is out of her comfort zone, so she quickly starts to think to herself what she could do in this certain situation.
