Mariah by Che Husna Azahari is a short story about a tall, well- proportioned and beautiful widow named Mariah who stayed in a small village town of Molo, Kelantan. She was a nasi seller and her nasi belauk was famous among the villagers, especially men. The village’s men love to visit Mariah’s stall because instead of enjoying her nasi belauk, they really love to watch Mariah. She was regarded as a threat by the women in the village because their husbands neglected their home cooking and pursue to Mariah’s Kedai Merpati for her nasi belauk. In the village, Imam was the guardian of modesty and propriety and enforcer of stringent mores. Imam’s wife, Cik Yam was a good, obedient and with good culinary and housekeeping skills wife. One day, when Imam saw Mariah, he was transported back into his youth time and remembering his past love when he was studying in Pattani. At the end of the story, Imam knelt and asked for Cik Yam’s permission to marry Mariah as second wife. Even Cik Yam was heartbreaking, but because she loves him, she allowed him to marry Mariah. In “Mariah” by Che Husna Azahari, feminism phenomena can be seen everywhere, especially Islamic feminism. The term “Islamic feminism” made its appearance in the world and in various contexts in 1990s. (J. Crétois, 2013).
