When I first entered this English course, I already knew what difficulties I faced as a writer. My middle and high school years as a writer are when I realized that I was not a good writer. I did not want to even be bothered by essay assignments because I knew that I would not receive a good grade on it. My main struggle with writing has always been the inability to fully explain my idea in a paragraph. I remember receiving many of my essays back with “need to develop paragraph more” written in red ink. I always stated what my ideas were but did not explain how they applied to the subject. The reader cannot get the point of the essay if you have not thoroughly told them what it was about. Another struggle I had with my writing is the structure of my paragraphs and causing the reader to be confused with what I was trying to say. I would always start with one idea for that paragraph but end up writing about a different one. A essay needs your ideas to be organized so it can be read and interpret correctly. This course has helped me improve in both of these areas. I have become better at actually letting the reader get the full scope of my idea and making them all flow together. If I continue with using the insights provided with this course then my writing skills will see great improvement. I am glad I took this English course because I have goals of becoming a psychologist. If I possess the proper writing skills, I can excel in my planned profession and use these skills to get me there. Writing is fundamental to being successful if I hadn’t taken this course this semester, I would be struggling to complete my other courses. I see the changes in writing ability as I type this essay; I feel that I am correctly developing my paragraphs and that I have organized my ideas well for them to flow together.
