Incarceration as we know it is the state of being confined in prison. In the movie prison state, the jail is located on the west side of Louisville, Kentucky in an area known as Beecher Terrace. This town is known to having every one in six people get locked up in prison. About 15 million dollars a year are spent on prisoners who are kept at the jail. There are thousands of inmates that are being incarcerated with little to no room left in the jail due to overcapacity. With that being said the law enforcement is constantly questioning the people that are sent to the jail. Is it supposed to be the people we are mad at or the people we are afraid of? That’s something many people consider when thinking of the jail. Personally I believe that in the world we live in today there are many different crimes that can cause people to go to jail but not everyone one of them are harmful to our country or the people that live in it. Instead of having all these people go to jail, there should be another consequence that can try and prevent it from happening again, such as fines, community service, or a program. This can avoid from mass amounts of spending and over packing the county jails. Throughout the movie there are four different people who have opened up and talked about their stories, first was Keith Huff a man that was arrested for burglary, theft, and the impersonation of a cop. The five years that Keith was given was like a gift due to the amount of charges he had on his record. Throughout the years he developed the disease called schizophrenia that was something he had to cope with in and out of jail. Eventually Keith was released and had to keep up with his parole officer and check in every so often. When watching, Keith was released with nothing but the clothes that were on his back. Living in the tough world we do, it is difficult to get a job anywhere, let alone trying to find a job with a record that Keith has developed for himself.
