Special children homes are institutions that cater to the needs of children who suffer from special conditions such as Down’s syndrome, Asperger’s syndrome (also known as autism), developmental issues, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder , etc. Special needs can be defined as an umbrella under which a number of diagnoses can be included. Children with special needs might have mild learning disabilities or serious disorders which may lead to psychological and behavioural distress. Such children and parents suffering from such a situation can often be catered by these institutions which have the experience and training to provide the required physical and emotional treatment. Special needs cannot only be categorized under physical or developmental troubles. These needs also cater to psychological illnesses. Often, these conditions take longer to appear completely and only show signs or symptoms. Thus it is important to be aware of all the precautionary measures. Nowadays there has been a sharp rise in such institutions all over the world as awareness has increased. Many areas recognize this problem and hence try to offer some help to such children through volunteering and donations. These institutions address the affected people in such a way so as to erase their individual differences and help them to move along with the world in their own way. Institutions that offer help to such individuals take care of their day to day needs and provide them with various facilities inside and outside the building that help them learn. These facilities may include card or board games or outdoor activities for their patients. The first special school in the world was built in Paris in 1784 by the name of “Institut national des Juenes Aveugles.” It was built to teach blind students. The initial perception of special needs was a negative one where people categorized such individuals as suffering from mental illnesses and the concept of special needs education practically did not exist. In the early times, people were a lot into literature and got their information from books or newspapers. Charles Dickens was the first author to address individuals suffering from these conditions in a rather positive light. He stated that such people are not any different from us but possess the same compassion and love as any other person. His words led to an amendment in the reforms in US and led to a betterment of conditions of the affected individuals. Special needs have a number of dimensions. Where many people do focus on the individual aspect and how this problem may affect the children, they tend to overlook the dimension that highlights the role of the parents who are an important part of this situation. Initially when parents come to know that their child may require special services, the parent goes through a phase commonly known as denial, in which he or she may try to struggle to erase this feeling, yet their efforts don’t work. With the rise of such services, parents have
