Nuclear Power Generation

21 Pages 589 Words 1557 Views

Nuclear power generation is one of the most controversial source of energy. Nuclear power uses uranium to release energy. When uranium was bombarded with neutrons it produces large amount of energy. This is called fission reaction. There is a constant debate on whether nuclear power generation is a necessary alternative in today’s energy consuming world. I will elaborate more on both sides of argument in the body paragraphs below. To begin with, one of the most important factors about nuclear power plant is that nuclear power by far has the lowest impact on environment as it releases virtually no greenhouse gases. Today, the threat of global warming is increasing and it has occurred faster since the industrial revolution. This is caused by greenhouse gasses, mainly carbon dioxide emitted, especially during burning of fossil fuels to produce powers, which are building up in the atmosphere causing gradual increase in the average temperature of earth. With nuclear power generator, there is no extreme effect on the climate change when compared to the traditional use of fossil fuels as it is more environmentally friendly and cause little or almost no pollution. Secondly, nuclear power is very reliable and efficient compared to other alternative energy supplies such as wind and solar. Nuclear power does not depend on natural aspects like the weather which makes it more stable than other forms of energy. With the advancement of technology nuclear plants can provide continuous electrical supply. This is a solution to the problem of other alternative energy supplier that depends on natural aspects. For instance, it is proven that solar panels are relatively useless during the night. Thirdly, the cost of nuclear energy is low. This is because less amount of uranium are needed to supply energy equivalent to the one produced by oils or coals. When nuclear reaction occurs, it generates thousands or even millions more energy than other source of en
