Why Schools Should Pay College Athletes

Many people look at college athletes to be just kids playing sports, but once people realize what they go through then they will understand why they should be paid. How do college athletes take care of living expenses if they are not allowed to work? Not all families are able to take care of their responsibilities and take care of a college athlete. As a matter of fact, they are not even allowed to make their own schedule. Coaches receive over a million dollars a year for signing contracts. I think that half of what a coach makes should be split in half for each player. Why are college athletes not allowed to work? The coach feels that working can interfere with the players practice time. Honestly, a college athlete only receives scholarships and grants and they are only enough to pay for tuition, books and living on campus. Once all that is paid they really do not have any money left. College athletes are still relying on their mothers or fathers because they cannot get jobs to take care of their own extra expenses. Scholarship and grant funds do not last forever. It's hard for a college athlete to rely on their parents if their parents are struggling too. They are not allowed to make their own schedule because the coach thinks they know best. Sometimes a college athlete goes to school to play ball because they cannot take up what they really want to major in. Even though it's just an extracurricular, it still takes away students from their school time, therefore, I think they should be paid. If you are not going to pay them, then why can they not make their own schedule! Coaches are receiving over a million dollars a year from signing contracts.
