How would you feel at the age of forty eight being a writer, producer, actor, director, screenwriter, composer, and editor? This is what every artist that is in the media production industry would aspire to be. If I had to pick a model to follow while pursuing my career, I would pick this gentleman, Jeffrey Jacob Abrams, better or simply known as “J.J.” Abrams. This American artist from New York City, and raised in Los Angeles, is highly recognized for his work in the categories of drama, science fiction, and action. He carries in his blood the artistic vein since his father and mother both are film and television producers. His sister is a screenwriter as well. Abrams was 16 years old, when he initiated in the movie business as a composer and sound effects editor for a science fiction-horror film called Nightbeast. Later, being a senior in college, he wrote a film treatment that would eventually serve as material for his first production film. James Belushi, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, and Joe Pesci, are among the numerous renowned actors and comedians featuring in some of his early works. Experimenting with computer technology, Abrams developed the animation for the film Shrek. He also worked on the scripts for numerous popular big screen films including 1998’s Armageddon. Fame, yes! It’s what most artists desire, and it arrived at J.J’s life with the making and production of popular television series like Felicity, Alias, and Lost which all ran for various seasons. His debut as director was very promising in 2006 with the Mission: Impossible III, featuring Tom Cruise. Also, Abrams directed and produced acclaimed films like Star Trek, the eleventh film on the Trek saga, the sequel Star Trek into Darkness, and Super 8, with the acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg, among many others. He will be working as producer on the sequel, Star Trek XIII. Nevertheless, Abrams has received around forty feature and television credits.
