Intellectuals have been arguing about the origin of life since the dawn of civilization. The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection proposed by Charles Darwin is one of the more prevalent theories used to explain the origin of life. The theory states that all living beings are the descendant of a common ancestor; that evolutionary change is the product of variation through the generations . This theory is widely praised and supported by scientists and researchers all around the world . But according to a survey conducted on the citizens of the US, nearly 42% of Americans don't believe in the Theory of Evolution but instead they believe in Creationism; that all living beings are the creation of a divine/higher being ( God ). When asked about their opinion on evolution, most of the respondents describe evolution as an "idea full of holes", with some even believing the theory are "lies devised by Satan himself to sway the faith of people in God". However, the Theory of Evolution isn't just a theory that is loosely formulated. In fact , there are many evidence and research that supports the theory , making it one of the most solid and logical theory in Science. Firstly , the word “theory” can have different meanings when used in different contexts. Therefore, the true meaning of a theory must be clearly defined to avoid confusion , as English is a very complex language . In general usage , a theory can be defined as an idea or predictions/speculations to a certain topic .
