Get in where you fit in seems to be the best cliché when it comes to the progression the world has made in computer technology. Computers have become the most important form of communication in today's society. This computer technology is social media i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to name a few. Social media has played a large role in the way we as a race communicate with each other. Social media has affected how we communicate effectively with each other. Social media has taken away the face-to-face interaction that we use on a daily to share what was in our thoughts in my eyes with each other, and because the most effective form of communication is nonverbal communication. Media can lose its translation of what the person intended to say. Because of this social media has become the genocide of communication. Social media is like a poison slowly leaking its toxins into our interpersonal and social interaction skills. Social media has made it very easy for people to stay in touch with family and friends and to express any thoughts or concerns that may be going on with them on a daily basis. Because this sharing of information does not take place in a one-on-one or face-to-face situation, there is no real verbal or interpersonal communication taking place. People who use Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram do not worry about how their post makes people feel about them. These seemingly innocent posts could ruin people’s reputations or affect their potential of getting a job. When people blog or post on a social site, their inhibitions our lessened; therefore, they tend to post freely what is on their minds. When people are in a face-to-face encounter, they would normally think about what they are going to say before they say it. Most people who socialize in person would be less likely to be so loose at the lips because they would think about what they are going to say before they says it or they would think this is an embarrassment to themselves or someone else. Social networking is like talking to a brick wall because people cannot see the people who they are talking to. Therefore, they cannot see their facial expressions and they would not know if they have hurt their feelings unless they told them. However, if people are speaking to them face to face, they are able to see their faces or expressions and see the hurt or confusion flash across their faces. For example, when people write text messages in all caps, it signals to the readers that the people are yelling. When in fact the writers could have inadvertently struck the cap lock button.
