My first advertisement that I have chosen is about a famous brand called ‘’Nike’’. The advertisement is called ‘’Risk Everything’’, it was specially made for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and starring well known football players from national teams and clubs. The ad opens on a park with two teams challenging each other in a pickup game where the winner stays on. The list of players featured in the ad is: Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr, Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gonzalo Higuain, Eden Hazard, and many more ., as the match nears the end with a 2-2 tie and a "next goal wins" scenario, a young boy takes the ball off Ronaldo, and with pressure upon him from people across the globe watching the match, scores the penalty and wins the game for his team. This advertisement is one of the most famous advertisement in sports because of the way Nike brought all these stars to show their product to the world, and also the fact that they were a big sponsor in the 2014 World Cup. They made this advertisement because of their new boots “Mercurial Superfly’’. This ad became famous because it was placed between the two halves of a match. They used special techniques in this advertisement such as the use of ethos, the used more than 25 soccer stars to represent this advertisement, ethos is the most apparent rhetorical appeal in the commercial. Ethos appeal of character which is Nike’s reasoning of having all the best soccer players in the world in their commercial. When people see the best players wearing Nike gear it makes them favor Nike over other brands. This advertisement also uses pathos because Pathos is the appeal to a viewers emotions. Since the target audience is athletes I believe this commercial appeals to the love of sports and the competitive nature of athletes.
