Leader presumes follower. Follower presumes choice. One who is serves his own purposes, objectives, or preferences of another is not a follower in the eyes of the world. One who is a leader also has to be a follower, so he/she can gain inspiration to become a better leader. It is a continuous cycle. However one shall know when to lead and when to follow. Teenagers today have difficulties deciding what to become on certain situations. Teenagers do not understand when to become a leader and when to be a lemming. As the world advances, there are more chances to get lost in thoughts, action, and images. Lemmings behave similar to young children riding on a rocking chair – fully engaged, always in motion, but going nowhere because of their unopinionated mindset. The key characteristic of a lemming is that he or she follows the crowd. Lemmings follow the path which offers least resistance, a path which has been created by millions of footprints left by Mr. and Mrs. Popular. However leaders are aware of the impulses that lead us to run in place. Leaders can analyze and understand their surroundings, they know how to gain inspiration from others while keeping their own identity. Leaders know how to avoid the path created by lemmings, and they constantly pursuing and creating their own path. Heavyweight boxing champion once said that "success begins with a decision.” In most cases, it is very beneficial for teenagers to “go with the flow”. At one point or another, every teenager has wondered another individual thoughts about them, whether it was positive or negative. A recent show on the channel ABC called #WYFFT a social experiment was conducted in a elevator of a school where all members who were conducting the experiment had their back faced to the opening of the elevator to see if the victims would follow the trend.
