“Taiwan? Where is it?” It was my first response, when my cousins told me the plan of the trip to Taiwan. It was a wedding gift that was prepared by them for my wedding in June. Of course, I thanked them for this, but I was slightly disappointed. Frankly, I wanted to travel to other cities like Paris in France, which has long history and beautiful buildings, or Sydney in Australia which has beautiful wildlife and exciting activities. I was not interested in other Asian cities in Taiwan really. However, after traveling four days and three nights I changed my mind. While traveling we visited old historical districts, rode on the fastest elevator in Asia and went around the whole city using effective public transportation. These experiences were so impressive I couldn’t help but change my thoughts. Historical buildings, exciting activities, and effective public transportation are common resources of tourist cities, but there are something special in Taipei and Taizhong. Taiwan’s history is not quite long but in the two cities, Taipei and Taizhong, there are a lot of old buildings that were built during the Japanese colonial era. The Japanese colonial government was responsible for building public structures. When Taiwan escaped the Japanese colonial rule, there were with many Japanese imperialist buildings left. At that time there was a dispute whether to demolish them or not. After a long pondering, the two cities decided to keep the buildings intact because they have historical meaning. As a result, nowadays Taipei and Taizhong are well-known for their historical buildings. At the Bopiliao Historic District in Taipei, visitors can see well-preserved streets and traditional shop homes from the Japanese occupation and early post-war periods. These buildings have witnessed the glory and pain of Taipei. Meanwhile, in Taizhong, Miyahara eye hospital was renovated and now it is very famous place in which people can enjoy delicious snac
