In our class this semester we have been asked to write an essay review on two compelling books. The books "This Present Darkness" by Frank Perritti and "In His Steps" by Charles M. Sheldon. Each book has a story line that is captivating to most any reader. Within the written pages we read of challenging circumstances that the reader can apply to real life situations. Though written fictitiously each book in its own special way take the reader to a place in their own lives where they can apply the word of God. It is my hope to make clear the underlying message of these writings. There is a God who created the heavens and the earth and all the fullness therein with a plan to give mankind the opportunity for relationship with himself and there is an enemy that is trying to thwart that plan. In the following pages it is my desire to give you a glimpse at both of these truths, the impact they can have in people lives and the change it can make in the earth when applied. First in the book "This Present Darkness" by Perritti we see a compelling story set in the town of Ashton a small college town in middle America. This small quaint community was like any other community in America where its citizens were living life and going about their day to day business it seemed. But behind the scenes of life there was a plan being put together to overtake the small Christian college and turn it into a college that would begin teaching New Age theory. Perritti in his writing tells of God's angels in their work to preserve the earth from this satanic over take which was being guised in the form of changes at Whitemore College over to a political machine steeped in the teachings of witchcraft. The plot of the story is to show the power of prayer and its influence or power over the forces of evil in the spirit realm. It tells of a Pastor by the name of Hank Busche who mounts an effort through prayer and spiritual warfare to thwart the plan to turn
