Planning and facilitating a presentation was a lot of work. In order to present the presentation I was forced to investigate the root of the poem. I would have to find out exactly what the poem meant, and what the purpose would be. Each line in “Five Flighst Up” written by Elizabeth Bishop, I analyzed to find exactly why each word was placed in that particular position. At first planning the presentation was very hard; honestly speaking I was a little devastated on exactly what was expected from me. I started practicing with others to find out what my strengths and weaknesses were before the actual presentation took place. During my practice sessions I made many adjustments to my presentation. Some of which would be the questions that were supposed to be asked and would have to answer them. During the presentation I was planning to have two different participants read the poem, however I believed it would be better for me to read it since it was my presentation and then have someone else reread what I read. My insight of the poem was very similar to what my peers were speaking during my discussion. My peers agreed that “Five Flights Up” allowed us to see many different views on how we are able to interpret the poem. Reading the poem with my peers allowed us to analyze “Five Flights Up” a few times before discussing it. By discussing the poem it provided us with different outcomes on exactly what the poem actually meant. There was confusion within the poem that filled our minds with questions that was very difficult to answer such as in line 10 “Enormous morning, ponderous, meticulous; gray light streaking each bare branch.” What is Bishop trying to tell us? Is she trying to give us a clue of dusk? Or can it be a clue of dawn? The title it itself gave us a clue that the setting of this poem can be located on the fifth floor.
