Many people claim that the UN is an outdated system built on a western foundation that has no real authority around the world. Skeptics also contend that the current system is aligned with the status quo and gives major parties on the Security Council to much power. A common misperception is that The United Nations is a world government that is in charge of making and enforcing laws. Although incorrect, the UN does provide the means to help resolve international conflicts and formulate policies on matters affecting communities on a global stage. In todays ever changing political society the one constant is the United Nations. The United Nations holds true to their standards despite political turmoil, unites countries for a cause and works to ensure a better and safer tomorrow for future generations. The UN serves as the only true universal institution and offers the best atmosphere to stimulate global action. Global problems such as terrorism, climate change, human rights violations, and other threats cannot be combated with a country acting independently.
