The BE Wise campaign established in early 2013 pushes students to be aware of the dangers of alcohol poisoning and how to avoid it, the signs of it, and how to respond to it. The Division of Student Affairs and SU Alumna Susan Cohen started the campaign in efforts to raise awareness of alcohol poisoning. The overall goal of the campaign is to stop students from drinking to the point of poisoning themselves and also to educate students of all walks of life just in case they encounter someone who has suffered from alcohol poisoning. If that were to happen BE Wise implicated a 3-step process on how to prevent alcohol poisoning from happening, Be Real, Know Your Limits; Be There, Make the Call; Be Aware, Know Your C.U.P.S. C - COLD SKIN, U – UNRESPONSIVE, P – PUKING, S - SLOW BREATHING. By giving the cons of binge drinking this strategy may deter teens away from drinking as much or at all. Most if not all of the campaign information is found online at bewise.syr.edu, the media forms are found in videos and information all found on the website. BE Wise campaign goes a step further to make its presence felt around campus with posters, pictures, and handouts that are given around campus various times of the year.
