Politics is perhaps best understood as the process of influencing public policy decision to protect and preserve group’s members. Because government makes and enforces public policy decision it is the people that try to influence officials who make and apply society rules or policies. History shows that people who organize political action tends to be more effective in achieving their goals when they’re well finance and working with a group. When people attempt to influence political decisions they usually turn into political parties or to interest groups. An interest group is an organization that seeks to influence government officials and their policies on the behalf of the members sharing common views and objectives. One of the interest groups includes Independent colleges and universities of Texas against cuts to the Texas equalization grants that help students with financial assistance to attend private colleges and universities. Another interest group is the Texas coalition to abolish the death penalty. The principal purpose of the party activity is to increase the number of its members who are elected or appointed to public office in order to gain control of government and achieve party goals. On the other hand interest groups seek to influence government officials to the advantage of the group. Interest groups want government to create and implement policies that benefit the group. Purpose of economic groups and professional groups is to make their policy preference known to government officials. They act as intermediaries for people who share common interest but reside throughout the state. They offer a form of protection by voicing the interest of such groups as business people, farmers, religion groups, Latinos, teachers and college students across the State.
