Body shaming is inappropriate and negative statements toward a person’s body shape or weight. One little sentence like “You’re fat,” or “You should go on a diet,” could impact the person’s thoughts about herself negatively. Although body shaming does not get recognized as an actual problem, it creates problems in the minds of girls. How girls view themselves affects them negatively and can causes a struggle to feel happy with their appearance. Girls can have difficulty engaging with other people because of their self consciousness, they may feel as though others are judging them or they may not want to interact with others because they may feel jealous or embarrassed. Their thoughts could eventually lead them to become depressed and have eating disorders. All of these behaviors can have effects on maintaining proper health, healthy relationships with friends, and many other issues. There are many problems related to body-shaming and body acceptance, but also there are ways to solve or cope with the thoughts and the hatred towards one's body. Only 5% of American females possess the body type that can be seen in advertisements on television, in magazines or on websites like Tumblr. The advertisements that are directed to make girls feel good about themselves in a certain shirt or with a certain type of makeup can backfire, causing girls to feel as though they can not achieve the particular look as shown on the models. This feeling has been shown to make females unsatisfied with themselves and has been known to cause depression, leading women to body shaming themselves. According to the organization Just Say YES, eighty percent of women who were surveyed by People Magazine reported that models and actresses make them feel insecure about themselves. The feeling of insecurity causes woman to feel less happy about their physique. This dislike could potentially become a disorder leading to dangerous behavior such as acting out sexually to feel as though someone appreciates their body, the use of drugs as a ‘relief’ to get
