Many individuals have suffered from the thought loneliness because they don't fit in. Many individuals have dedicated their life to helping people with low self-esteem. Self-esteem takes a toll on you when it comes to being yourself. Low self esteem makes you feel like you don't fit in with your peers. Kady Heron from Mean Girls and Jin Wang from American Born Chinese are both examples of individuals who suffer from not fitting in with peers. They both spend their life trying to fit in with the popular group. Jin Wang looses his self when he gets to a new high school. On his first day he suffered from verbal abuse from his classmate Timmy. Jin was humiliated in front of his class, Timmy says "My momma says Chinese people eat dog". Timmy's statement was a stereotype towards Chinese people. Throughout the book another Chinese person joins the Mayflower Elementary School, his name is Wei-Chen Sun. Wei only wants to be friends with Jin but Jin says "I have enough friends". The group of boys Jin is referring to are the same boys who made stereotypical slurs toward him. Jin is scared to just be his self because he's experienced what it's like to be alone and doesn't want to experience it again. Kady Heron and Jin Wang have both suffered from not fitting in. Kady is a student from Africa. When she first arrived at Northridge high school she felt extremely out of place. She was very used to to the jungle and how things were done in Africa. Lady felt like she did not belong. After Kady became friends with the popular girls she lost her self. The popular girls consist of three other females. While on their way to the mall one girl says "get in loser were going shopping". Kady was so happy that the popular girls were talking to her she didn't realize she was being insulted. When you have the desire to fit in with others, you loose your humanity. Jin Wang and Kady Heron are both individuals that are dealing with the same issue of fitting in. Jin
