In the book “Introduction to Psychology”, they said control means altering conditions that influence behavior, but to me the definition of control means to have the remote. For example, you get to choose what step you want to make next or what you want to do in general. Throughout the last 17 years of my life I can honestly say that nothing controls me because I always like to be the one in control and handle every situation that comes my way. Don’t get me wrong, I listen to my parents but only as feedback/ advice for what I choose to do. If I had to remember a time that I was controlled it would have to be when I younger. For example, when my teachers assign assignments that needs to be done in order for my grade to go up, when I broke my arm and the doctor told me to stay off of it for the whole month so it could heal, and etc. I wouldn’t say that I’m controlled by a who/what, I would rather say that I’m controlled by what needs to be done in order to be successful in this world. For example, in our textbook it talked about critical thinking and my dad’s executive function diminished. This area was operating at 55% general adult functioning (G.A.D). Due to this he was unable to make good decisions and regulate his behavior. Not everyone is built with the same mentality but we are all born with are free will. We can choose what we want to do with our free will which can either destroy
