Video games have been around for 65 years but, “in 1976 the controversial video game, Death Race, was released. The object of the game was to run over gremlins” (Fergson). This marked the first violent video game, meaning that they have been around for 38 years. The question now is, do violent video games affect how kids react in real life? There have been multiple incidents where people have said it was the effect of videogames. This has been going on for a while with the pros and cons, but also with major incidents and statistics of violence over the years. Everybody has their fair share in this considering video games are a part of most people's lives. It’s more common now than ever with the home systems, portable games and the smart phone games. Some states are trying to ban video games with violence like California: “the Supreme Court’s decision to strike California’s ban on selling and renting violent video games to young people raises the obvious question: what are children and teens playing on their computers and digital screens?” (BAKAN). The ban would cost the state a lot of money and also the video game industry. This banning wasn’t successful and it also brings the thought of what your kids are playing on the computer. Due to this ban being against rented and sold games, free games on the computer are out of it. Computer games are more frequently play by kids and teens. “Nickelodeon’s addicitnggames.com, calls its self the largest casual game sight. While also having casual games it also has violent games on top twenty” (BAKAN). Nickelodeon (Nick) is for all ages but it mainly presents its products to teens and under. Nick has a wide variety of games that people consider violent. You can find the majority of them under the category bloody. Nick is pushing violent entertainment, because violence makes money. Violence is all around the world. It’s against the law to do these acts violence so people get
