There are different kinds of world-views. All the world-views consists different point of views and knowledge. Out of all the world-views epicurean worldview and Plato’s worldview have the most interesting similarities as well as differences. Even though Epicurus has given more importance to sensory knowledge and not Plato but in the end both of them essentially had the same priority of gaining happiness in life. Plato had his own approaches of achieving happiness, as well as Epicurus. Here, throughout this essay I will be showing some of the similarities and differences between these two world-views. Epicurus has always given more importance to the sensory knowledge (Journal of jin yang) although he knew that the science of nature must be studied too. Moreover, he told all of his readers to study nature. Now, Why would he do that? Personally, In my point of view, we must study the science of nature not for the knowledge of the nature but to understand what’s happening around us, which will give us more knowledge to free ourselves and to help us live a happier life. The more knowledge we gain about the world and universe, the more this knowledge helps us understanding what’s happening around us. As we know that physics is a part of science which tries to answer and reveal all the unknowns in our world which is the most important thing to live happily, according to Epicurus (Knowledge Form). There’s no possibility of achieving happiness unless we stop worrying about the things we don’t know the answer. Epicurus has proposed (and practised himself) a life of simple pleasures and limited desires (Fati? 525) which shows that knowledge that is based on sense is more important for him.
