During the 18th to 19th century many changes happened. There were changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, technology, and transport. This was called the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution was very beneficial to the progress of the world. Some many things happened during this time, that many people wonder if it was the right thing. I believe everything that was done was done for a reason and help create what we have today. In the beginning of the Industrial Revolution there was much adversity to overcome. After, a while things started to look up. The American industry produced more consumer goods. The first cotton-spinning factory was in 1793. This became a moneymaker. The United States just began expanding this technology and was behind. Britain however was ahead. By 1830 the United States caught up. Having more technology and more transportation options made the economy grow. Business owners used trains to transport products and to ship material around the country. Having more tools helped farmers have less of a workload. Technology advancing made it easier for farmers to grow crops faster. I believe the country did the best they could. Other nations were advancing faster then America, but we were able to catch up and come out on top. During the Industrial Revaluation many different abuses were going on. This caused many different strikes to happen. One of the abuses was the child labor act. Before the Industrial Revolution children of farmers and artisans worked for their family under supervision of a parent or relative. Many children left their home to work in a factory. “Between 1870 and 1900, the number of children younger than 16 working for wages usually a fraction of those paid adults skyrocketed from 700,00 to 1.7 million”(Chapter 16, P 482).
