“After days of waiting, the Founder’s Day Parade was finally here. At least that what the people of Greenhorn thought. I could not help but notice the amount of joy and gladness that hung in the air. Everybody’s face beamed with happiness - everyone's except mine. I did not know what Founder’s Day Parade was. Where I come from everybody is busy minding their own business and the only feasts that are celebrated are New Year's, Christmas, Thanksgiving and birthdays. Keep in mind that these feasts are for family only - not the whole town. But could I blame the happy people of Greenhorn? It was a small happy town. Being the new person in a particular place can be one of the worst things that could ever happen to me. And yet here I was, in a small town. I had been told not to worry because the people in this part of the world were quite friendly. It had been two weeks and I had not felt their hospitality. If anything I do not think they wanted me to stay. Well the feeling was mutual. I loathed the fact that I had no choice. If I wanted to get that job as a surgeon, then I had to do what my professor had said. “If you want me to approve your practice as a surgeon then you have to be a general practitioner for a year.” These words kept ringing in my mind and to my surprise, they motivated me to stay on. I also thought that being in Greenhorn would possibly not be my worst nightmare. Maybe I should have given that a second thought. The experience had been terrible but it was far from over. Even amid all the bitterness that was going around, I had managed to make friends with a few people. The town Mayor, Mr. Jefferson, had been so friendly. The town of Greenhorn had a Founder’s Day Parade that was held annually and I was lucky that I was around to attend one.
