Back in the day, life seemed so much easier. Our idea of fun was going out with friends, playing board games, painting, we always found something to do, which did not necessarily require the use of technology Today however, everyone does things virtually and is so dependent on technology, it is everywhere, and has become part of our daily life making it very hard to avoid. That is why social networking is greatly being used Today I will enlighten you on how social networking has negatively impacted our society. Facebook and Twitter are social networks used by many people, these sites were created for many reasons but the main purpose was to promote and aid in communication. Today you can find and connect with just about anyone and share ideas through these sites but this connection can have a major downside. Research has shown with the constant use of these social technologies, social skills are becoming affected, due to a lack of proper communication. People today prefer to communicate through a screen or written words rather than speaking face-to-face destroying any real friendships they had before. For instance when you walk around campus you see students sitting by themselves with their heads staring into their phones or even people sitting together but doing the same thing when they have people around them that they can communicate with. Due to a lack of personal interaction, people become isolated and this is bad for our society because it is necessary to be personable. Studies have shown that isolation can lead to emotional, psychological, physical and mental problems, which include anxiety, depression among many others. People’s self esteem and image become affected and there very own sense of humanity. Networking sites were initially made to improve communication, however it seems to be destroying in some ways as well as our people.
