Using the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) website, (n.d.a) as a tool for monitoring my food intake. I consume three meals a day breakfast lunch and dinner, according to (USDA) I have not been consuming enough amounts of calories based on (USDA) report the recommendation is 2800 calories, I been eating average of 1402 calories daily. The days I tracked were Wednesday 1/21/15, Thursday 1/22/15, and Friday 1/23/15. Under the Food Groups and Calories in the (USDA) website, in the Grains column the amount recommended is 10 ounces and I’ve eaten on average 3-½ ounces, 3 ounces of Refined Grains and ½ ounce of Whole Grains. Vegetables recommendation is 3-½ cups of Dark Greens, Red & Orange, Beans & Peas, Starchy, or others, I’ve only eaten 1 cup, and from dark greens I’ve eaten ½ cup, Red & Orange ¾ cups, and Starchy ¾ cups. For fruits I’ve not eaten any, the recommended amount is 2-½ cups. Dairies recommendation amount is 3 cups, I’ve ate ¼ cups of cheese. Protein foods like seafood, meat, poultry & eggs recommended amount is 7 ounces; I’ve eaten 15 ½ ounces of protein from eggs, chicken, and steak. Two choices that I want to change in my dietary intake are increasing vegetable intake, and decreasing protein intake to the recommended amounts. Vegetables are very helpful and they may “lower my blood pressure and reduce the risk of developing kidney stones, and help to decrease bone loss”(USDA, n.d.b, para.4). Excessive protein intake may lead to kidney problems also increase risk of “developing post-menopausal breast-cancer, endometrial cancer, colon cancer, and kidney cancer”(Shayne, 2008). These choices are all improvements to my health and it will impact my life in a long run. Some of the good and bad influences are school can be bad influence in make good healthy food choices because of all the stressful things school can do to me.
