Why I Play Soccer

A lot of people don’t understand how just a sport can make someone who they are. They don’t understand the sacrifices athletes make to play the sport we love. We give up our social life, free time, and sleep schedule. Having to balance practice, games, extra training, homework, studying, tests, and maintaining good grades and continuing being the best you can be in games and training, is incredibly difficult. But we don’t mind any of the sacrifices because what we’re sacrificing all of it for, is worth it.
Why I play soccer, is because it’s what takes my mind off of everything. I’ve played soccer since I was five years old. Each year getting better and better. Soccer comes naturally to me. The way I can easily collect the ball in the air with any part of my body. How well I can dribble through people in traffic. How well I can place a ball wherever I want it. How well I can see the field and have the vision to play off of my teammates. Soccer is a fast paced game so you always have to be thinking what you’re going to do before you even get the ball. It makes me think quickly and challenges me at times.
I play soccer because I can express myself through the way I play. I’m a finesse player. I can dribble, cut, juke, and place the ball wherever I want it. I’m not the kind of player to think about how I’m going to tackle, but how I’m going to get around it so it doesn’t slow me down. I love the person I am on the field. I’m smart, I’m quick, I’m skillful, and I’m agile. I love the feeling of making a great play. I love the feeling of making a game winning save by going into a tackle.
Without soccer I wouldn’t be me. I wouldn’t have the opportunities I do now. I wouldn’t know what true passion, dedication, and hard work is. I love that I have to work hard.
