Intelligence can be defined in many ways. It can be defined in many different ways such as one’s intellectual capacity for logic, or the ability to acquire knowledge. Everyone is intelligent in their own and unique way and should be measured in different areas and forms. In the movie “Idiocracy”, the narrator explains to the audience how when years have passed, “Mankind became stupider at a frightening rate. Some had high hopes the genetic engineering would correct this trend in evolution, but sadly the greatest minds and resources were focused on cockering hair loss and prolonging erections.” This shows what a huge aspect intelligence has in our daily lives, being a big attribute of society especially with, gaining a better job, the way we speak, and taking care of ourselves mentally.
Language is important in our society. Intelligence influences the human language immensely; the way we talk, communicate to one another, pronunciate, speak, etc. In a way it can act as a barrier because it can be difficult to understand one another. In the movie, slang and curse words formed the entire vocabulary of the English language in 2055 and “deteriorated into a hybrid of hillbilly, valley girl, inner city slang, and various grunts.” Without the ability to grasp the understanding of certain information things can get lost in translations and cause miscommunication from one person to another. For example, it can be shown when Joe Bauers goes to trial with his lawyer. The lawyer’s job is to “convince” the jury and judge that his client, Joe is not guilty, but does the opposite intended. The prosecutor on the other side also argues foolishly to the jury saying, “Kay. Number one your honor, just look at him. And B we’ve got all this, like, evidence, of how, like, this guy didn’t even pay at the hospital. And I heard that he doesn’t have his tattoo”.
